Materials Pick-Up

Saturday 1 August, 10am - 1pm, Patch Barracks

I will be in the parking lot of the Patch Scout Hut / The Hub, which is directly to the right of the Fitness Center

Please remember to bring your mask, and ask your children to remain in the car - only 1 adult should exit the car

Monday, August​ 3:

0930: Buttercream Flowers (Cadette / Senior / Ambassador) 

  • Wilton decorating tip 1M

  • 4 Piping Bags

  • 2-3 rubber bands

  • Wax paper or parchment paper for practicing

  • Buttercream Icing - made in advance

    1. ingredients: 1 stick butter, 1/2 stick Baking Crisco, 1 box powdered sugar 

    2. Recipe: https://www.wilton.com/buttercream-frosting/WLRECIP-41.html.  Make Medium Consistency.  Read the whole recipe, including the notes at the bottom. Pre-made frosting from the grocery baking aisle (Betty Crocker, Duncan Hines, etc) is NOT sufficient for decorating cakes; but you CAN use pre-made Wilton's Ready-to-use Decorators Icing. 

  • butter knife or small spatula

  • water

  • small bowls - 4 per girl (cereal bowls are fine) and a few spoons for mixing.

  • powdered confectioners sugar

  • scissors

  • paper towels

  • Optional: something to decorate after the class (cupcake, cookie, cake, etc); Gel food colorings + toothpicks.  

  • If you purchased the Materials Pack for this class, it will contain the first four items listed as well as the ingredients to make your own buttercream icing. The other items need to be provided at home.

1100: Make a leather pouch (Junior / Cadette / Senior / Ambassador) 

  • This class requires that you pick up a free Materials Kit - the supplies cannot be replicated at home.

1400: Circuit Bugs (Daisy / Brownie / Junior)

  • Thin, insulated electrical wire

  • 2 -3 small LED light diodes (like this product on Amazon.de)

  • 3 Volt battery (small camera battery, like this product on Amazon.de)

  • electrical tape

  • 6 pipe cleaners

  • 2 popsicle sticks

  • If you purchased the Materials Pack for this class, it will contain everything you need.

1600: Pony Bead Lizard Keychain (Daisy / Brownie / Junior)

  • Approximately 3 yards of cord - can be vinyl, plastic, yarn, ribbon, etc.

  • Approximately 30 pony beads of Color 1 (your choice)

  • Approximately 25 pony beads of Color 2 (your choice, but a different color than color 1)

  • 2 pony beads of a third contrasting color (for the eyes)

  • scissors

  • Optional: key ring if you want to attach it to something

  • If you purchased the Materials Pack for this class, it will contain everything except the scissors.

Tuesday, August 4:

0930: Zumba (Daisy / Brownie / Junior)

  • Comfortable clothing for exercising

  • Sneakers

  • Drinking water

  • Open Space for moving

1100: Watercolor Painting (Junior / Cadette / Senior / Ambassador)

  • Set of watercolor paints (Crayola brand or similar is fine)

  • Paintbrush

  • Paper from an art pad or thick paper

  • Glass or cup of water

  • Paper napkin / paper towels

  • If you purchased the Materials Pack for this class, it will contain the first three items on the list. The last 2 items will need to be provided at home.

1600: Hand-Sewing Felt Flowers (Daisy / Brownie)

  • This class required that you purchase the Materials Kit - the supplies and shapes cannot be easily replicated at home.

Wednesday, August 5: 

0930: Fondant Fundamentals (Brownie / Junior)

  • Rollable fondant, any color, preferably more than one color. 

  • Rolling pin, or something that can serve as a rolling pin (a smooth bottle or cup will also work)

  • Cookie cutters or something to cut shapes with (the top of a cup, cookie cutters, clean Play-doh cutters, stencils & a plastic knife, etc)

  • Optional: Something for your Girl to decorate after the class is finished! Sugar cookies, frosted cupcake, etc. 

  • 200g of fondant and a small rolling pin were available as an optional purchase for this class.  Even if you purchased some of the materials, the cookie cutters and something for your Girl to decorate will need to be provided at home. 

1100: Yoga Exploration (Junior / Cadette / Senior / Ambassador) 

  • Loose & Comfortable Clothing

  • Open Space

  • Special Object (stuffed animal, favorite rock, etc)

  • Yoga/exercise mat is optional

1300: How to make Pet Toys (Daisy / Brownie / Junior)

  • a few old socks (women's or kids sizes work best)

  • heavy-duty paper that crinkles: examples include: heavy paper used for padding when you receive packages in the mail, the paper stuffed into the toe of a new pair of shoes, wax paper, etc.

  • A few old t-shirts, cut into 2-inch wide strips.  The strips can be any length, but should all be the same length.  

  • 1 or 2 tube from a toilet paper roll or paper towel roll

  • a small length of yarn

  • Scissors

  • If you requested the free Materials Pack for this class, it will contain everything except the scissors. 

1600: Costume Design (Cadette / Senior / Ambassador)

  • Read and become familiar with this script

    • If possible, print the script and have it with you for class​

    • Highlight what you think are "costume directions" in advance of class

  • Paper and pencil

  • Optional: you can gather items from around your home that you think would complement a costume from the script! 

Thursday, August 6:

0930: Zumba (Cadette / Senior / Ambassador)

  • Comfortable clothing for exercising

  • Sneakers

  • Drinking water

  • Open Space for moving

1100: Painting (Daisy / Brownie) 

  • Troop 511 is donating the materials for this class for all Stuttgart Girl Scouts.  Thank you Troop 511!!!

  • The materials must be picked up on Saturday 1 August, from 10am-1pm, on Patch Barracks.  You should receive an email with this information. 

1400: Make Your Own Flashlight (Junior / Cadette / Senior / Ambassador) 

  • This class required that you purchase the Materials Kit - the supplies and shapes cannot be easily replicated at home.

1800: Girl Scouts 101 (Daisy / Brownie)

  • Song Booklet for download and printing is here 

  • Materials for SWAP:

    • pipe cleaner

    • tiny white beads or tiny shreds of white fabric (that can be glued onto the pipe cleaner)

    • glue

    • scissors

    • a safety pin to affix it to the vest 

  • If you requested the free Materials Kit for the SWAP, it will contain pipe cleaners, small beads​, and a safety pin. The other items will need to be provided from home.

Friday, August 7:

0930: Yoga Exploration (Daisy / Brownie) 

  • Loose & Comfortable Clothing

  • Open Space

  • Special Object (stuffed animal, favorite rock, etc)

  • Yoga/exercise mat is optional

1100: Stories of the Stars (All Levels) 

  • Inner cardboard tube from toilet paper rolls

  • white paper

  • something to draw with

  • clear tape (packing tape, scotch tape, etc)

  • flashlight

  • thick paper with printed constellations. Highly recommend printing on cardstock, not regular paper.  

1300: Photography (Cadette / Senior / Ambassador)

  • a digital camera, with a manual setting.  Your phone is not ideal for this class.  

1500: Sign Your Way (Cadette / Senior / Ambassador)

  • It would be helpful to have a copy of the Girl Scout Promise and Law in front of you, if you do not have them memorized. 

Monday, August 10: 

1030: Edible Fire (Daisy / Brownie) 

  • 3 Large Pretzel Rods OR 3 Large Tootsie Rolls

  • Shredded coconut OR Chow Mein Noodles OR Shredded Cheese

  • Small Cup

  • Fork or Spoon

  • Paper towels or napkins

  • Small pretzel sticks

  • Small marshmallows

  • Cheerios

  • Raisins or M&Ms

  • Red Twizzlers

1200: How to Make Homemade Jam (Junior / Cadette / Senior / Ambassador)

  • MUST WATCH THIS KNIFE SAFETY VIDEO IN ADVANCE - click here

  • Gelierzucker 2:1 (found in the sugar aisle of German grocery stores)

  • 1 kg plums (purple plums called Zwetschgen / Pflaumen or yellow plums called Mirabellen)

  • 1 cup of a red juice or orange juice

  • ground cinnamon

  • 4 whole cloves

  • 1 package of vanilla sugar (found in the baking aisle of German grocery stores)

  • Mixing bowl

  • knife / cutting board

  • hand mixer

  • wooden spoon

  • whisk

  • ladle

  • Pot / dutch oven for the stove top

  • 4-6 clean jam jars with lids

Tuesday, August 11:

0930: Sign Your Way (Brownie / Junior)

  • It would be helpful to have a copy of the Girl Scout Promise and Law in front of you, if you do not have them memorized. 

1030: Recycled Bag Art (All Ages) 

  • Plastic grocery bags - Any color is fine, and it doesn't matter if they have writing or designs on them. 

  • String or yarn or something else to tie the flowers with

  • Scissors

1200: How to make Flädlesuppe, German pancake soup (Junior / Cadette / Senior / Ambassador)

  • 100g flour

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1 cube of stock

  • 500g beef bones

Wednesday, August 12:

0930: Make a wooden squirrel feeder (Daisy / Brownie / Junior)

  • GIRLS WILL NEED HANDS-ON ASSISTANCE FROM A RESPONSIBLE ADULT DURING THIS CLASS!!! 

  • This class required that you purchase a Materials Kit - the supplies cannot be easily replicated at home

  • You will need a selection of hand tools, such as screwdriver, hammer, etc. This list will be updated as soon as we have more specific information, and you will also be emailed.

1030: Rain Stick (Daisy / Brownie / Junior) 

  • Longer Cardboard Tube (paper towel roll, aluminium foil roll, wrapping paper tube, etc). A toilet paper roll will work in a pinch, but is not preferred.

  • dried rice and beans (good to have a selction of sizes for different sounds)

  • aluminum foil OR small nails and a hammer (to seal the ends)

  • clear packing tape

  • Duck tape or wrapping paper or tissue paper or construction paper (to decorate the outside of your instrument)

  • The first three items are provided if you purchased the Materials Kit.  The last 2 items would still need to be provided at home. 

1200: Cooking Ofenschlupfer (Junior / Cadette / Senior / Ambassador) 

  • MUST WATCH THIS KNIFE SAFETY VIDEO IN ADVANCE - click here

  • 4 bread rolls that are a few days old

  • 4 apples

  • sugar (to taste)

  • 2 tsp cinnamon

  • raisins (optional)

  • 0.5 liters of milk OR 250 g of vanilla joghurt + 0.25 liters of milk

  • 2 or 3 eggs

  • bowl

  • whisk

  • cutting board

  • knife

  • ovenproof dish

1400: Pizza Box Solar Cooker (Junior / Cadette / Senior / Ambassador)

  • 1 unused or clean Pizza Box, pre-cut with an adult's help 

    • On the top of the pizza box's lid, draw a square that is about one inch inward from each edge.

    • Get an adult's help to use a utility knife (and use a ruler as a straight edge) to carefully cut along 3 sides of the square you just drew.  DO NOT CUT THE SIDE THAT RUNS ALONG THE HINGE OF THE BOX. Cut all the way through the cardboard on those three sides of the square.

    • Fold the new flap back slightly along the attached side.

  • 4-6 sheets of black construction paper

  • Plastic wrap

  • Aluminum foil

  • Scissors

  • Clear tape (packing tape or Scotch tape will work)

  • Newspapers

  • Wooden spoon or similar item

  • To cook your food later, you will need a heat-proof plate or pie pan to be used as a cooking dish, and ingredients for what you want to cook.  A few recipe ideas can be found here: https://www.sunshineonmyshoulder.com/6-easy-recipes-for-kids/

  • If you requested a free Materials pack, it will contain a pre-cut Pizza Box and black construction paper. The other materials will need to be gathered from home. 

Thursday, August 13:

0900: Finger-Knitted Butterfly (Daisy / Brownie)

  • 2 different colors of yarn, at least 20 feet of each color.

  • Googly eyes or small buttons for eyes

  • Pipe cleaner (for the body of the butterfly)

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • If you purchased the Material Pack for this class, it will contain everything you need except the scissors and glue.

1000: How to make German Vegetable Stew (Junior / Cadette / Senior / Ambassador)

  • MUST WATCH THIS KNIFE SAFETY VIDEO IN ADVANCE - click here

  • Seasonal vegetables, for example: carrots, zucchini, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, mushrooms, cauliflower, broccoli, etc

  • fresh herbs, such as thyme, basil, or oregano

  • butter or margarine

  • 1 cup of broth (vegetable broth to keep it vegetarian, or chicken/beef broth if you prefer)

  • salt/pepper

  • pot / deep skillet

  • cutting board

  • knife

1100: Outdoor Windchime (Brownie / Junior) 

  • Several sticks collected from the ground (DO NOT CUT DOWN TREE BRANCHES!)

  • Pinecones or feathers or anything else to decorate the windchime

  • Garden string or hemp

  • Hot glue gun or small screws with eye-holes

  • Scissors

Friday, August 14:

1000: Ms. Potato Head - cooking German potato dishes (Junior / Cadette / Senior / Ambassador)

  • 2-1/2 pounds of starchy potatoes, peeled and very finely grated (raw).  Grate them just before class starts, so they don't brown.

  • 1 small yellow onion, very finely grated

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (have a bit of extra on hand)

  • Quark (found in the refrigerated dairy aisle of a German grocery store)

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • neutral-tasting oil for frying (such as canola oil)

  • vegetable grater

  • bowl

  • knife

  • potato peeler

  • wooden spoon

  • ladle

  • skillet

  • spatula to flip cakes

1200: Photography Challenge Wrap-Up (All levels)

  • No materials required!
